Pole Jam this saturday!

We’re hosting a POLE JAM for ALL STUDENTS of ALL ABILITIES! Saturday 12th November 12-4pm at the studio

Whether you’re new to pole and have just started your lessons, or you’re an experienced poler, come down and show us what you’ve got! We’re inviting students from other universities too, so you’ll have the chance to meet new people and see different pole styles! This is a great opportunity to mingle and learn from others ahead of our Inter-University Competition in March!

We will have both static and spinning poles available :)

We’re asking for £3 per person, which can greatly help out our fundraising efforts for the competition, as all the profits will be going to our chosen charity, Bristol Rape Crisis.

Timetable Change

We have decided – due to a lack of numbers – not to run any classes above Intermediate on the Pole Society timetable. This means we can run additional beginners classes and cater for all the newbies coming through!

For any returning students, or students that come to us at an advanced beginners level or more (so they can do a basic invert comfortably, crucifix and possibly a few other inverts) they will now be able to join the evening advanced classes and pay the student rate of just £5. The levels are the same as the pole soc levels – advanced beginners, then advanced intermediate, then advanced.

To book onto these classes they will need to follow the below:

1. Go to the online booking system (https://clients.mindbodyonline.com/ASP/home.asp?studioid=18325) and choose the ‘pole/aerial hoop’ tab
2. Decide which class they want to attend and click ‘make a single reservation’
3. IGNORE the drop box that says ‘what kind of membership do you want’ and instead click on the bar below that says ‘Pay as you go – 2 credit class – £12.50′
4. This will take you to the shopping cart. here you have to enter the promotional code ‘polesoc2011′ into the promotions box. This will then discount the class to a fiver.

Unfortunately all evening classes need to be paid in advance online – if students want to pay cash then the can risk not booking on and just turning up, but if the class is full they will be turned away.

This offer is only valid to students attending advanced pole classes – not beginners/intermediate level students

Bristol Pole Dancing at National Level

On the 25th September was the UK Amateur Pole Performer (UKAPP) final in St Albans, Bristol University had four competitors through to the final. Laura Curry, a third year music student, singer as well as Promotions and Social Secretary of the Pole Dance Society, wowed the audience with her fun filled, tongue in cheek routine, which the pole dance community are becoming ever more accustomed to. Laura, who was in the performer category, danced to ‘Waking up in Vegas’ by Katy Perry. She danced in a cape that is becoming her trademark piece. Priya Sodha, the Vice-President of the Pole Dance Society, also in the performer category, chose the Black Swan film as her theme, bringing her balletic experience to the routine. The whole performance was elegant, strong, extremely fluid and dramatic, which is nothing less than what one would expect from this up and coming pole dance star.

Bex Brady, the current President of the Pole Dance Society, and Emy Calder, former Webmistress for the society, performed in the doubles category. The pair had qualified at the Bristol heat of the competition dancing to a Tomb Raider theme. After posting a video of their performance on YouTtube it suddenly went viral and soon they were featured on many websites including Games Radar. You can view their qualifying performance at: http://tinyurl.com/Emy-Bex-Bristol. The pair decided to change their routine for the final, but kept the gaming theme. They managed to keep their piece a secret until the night, until they unveiled their Super Mario Brothers costumes; Emy dressed as Mario and Bex dressed as Luigi The performance included those ever loved symbols such as the Super Star and Mystery Block from the game. Unsurprisingly the girls stunned the audience with their unique routine and there was not a single person in the room who did not have a smile on their face. They have also been asked to guest perform at the UK Professional Pole Performer semi-finals in Birmingham on the 9th October.

Unfortunately none of the Bristol girls won prizes; however they are all definitely ones to look out for in the future. Why not see for yourself? http://tinyurl.com/Emy-Bex-final , http://tinyurl.com/Laura-Curry-UKAPP, http://tinyurl.com/Priya-Sodha-UKAPP
